NIKE x ASPCA | Walk With Purpose

Conceptual Brand Collaboration & Textural Identity

The Vision: Movement is often framed as an individual pursuit of greatness. But for millions, daily movement is an act of service. Nike x ASPCA is a conceptual partnership that honors the dog walkers and rescuers whose "miles" contribute to animal welfare.

The Challenge: The goal was to integrate Nike’s performance language with the ASPCA’s mission of protection. Instead of relying solely on a color palette, we utilized tactile storytelling to represent the diverse animals at the heart of the cause.

Project Details:

  • Role: Art Direction, Material Design, Visual Identity

  • Tools: Adobe Creative Suite, 3D Mockups, Adobe Firefly

  • Focus: Brand Identity, Material Innovation, Social Impact

Strategic Execution

1. Textural Branding (The "Furred" Swoosh) The core of the visual system is the Nike Swoosh, reimagined as a canvas for animal diversity.

  • Material Palette: Each iteration of the shoe features a Swoosh textured with different dog coat patterns—from the wiry coat of a Terrier to the dense double-coat of a Husky.

  • The Message: This subtle but powerful detail ensures that the animal is literally "embedded" in every step, making the cause the focal point of the design.

2. Visual Language & Color Theory To complement the multi-texture Swooshes, the rest of the shoe utilized a neutral, urban palette (Charcoal, Sand, and Slate). This allows the diverse textures of the logo to stand out without competing for attention.

3. Performance for the "Human" Side While the logo honors the dog, the shoe is built for the walker:

  • High-Visibility Safety: Integrated reflective 3M threading for early morning and late-night walks.

  • Weather-Ready: A GORE-TEX lined upper to handle mud and rain during rescue efforts.

The Deliverables

  • Sneaker Concept: A performance-driven silhouette featuring the "Fur-Patterned Swoosh" series.

  • Textural Toolkit: A material library mapping specific dog coat textures to various shoe models.

  • Digital Campaign: "Every Coat Counts" — A social campaign celebrating the unique breeds and mixes that the ASPCA protects.

Core Takeaways

  • Tactile Storytelling: Using physical textures (furs/coats) creates a deeper emotional connection than color alone. It makes the design feel "alive."

  • Systemic Diversity: By rotating different textures in the logo, the project reflects the ASPCA’s commitment to all animals, regardless of breed.

  • Human-Animal Connection: The design bridges the gap between the high-performance "human" athlete and the "animal" companion.
